The project was jointly implemented by Huaneng Dalate Power Plant, Ordos Kangneng New Energy Investment Co., Ltd., and the Inner Mongolia Academy of Science and Technology. It includes 200 shared bikes and 17 parking locations covering the plant’s production and living areas.

The initiative integrates hydrogen production by electrolysis, gaseous hydrogen storage, portable hydrogen refuelling and shared-bike applications into a single system, connecting the hydrogen supply chain from production and storage to end use.

As a project partner, the technology management team from the Inner Mongolia Academy of Science and Technology participated in project planning, site assessments, technical route selection, resource coordination and the development of an implementation model. Its responsibilities included policy coordination, technical assessments, product adaptation and project follow-up.

Focusing on the operating conditions of a thermal power plant, the team helped bring hydrogen technologies from the laboratory into practical use. It coordinated the interfaces between hydrogen production, storage, refuelling and vehicle deployment, while helping adapt the equipment to the plant’s operating environment.

The project uses short-distance commuting within the power plant as its primary application scenario, with science and technology innovation platforms providing support and technology management services facilitating implementation. Its approach links application scenarios, platform support, professional services and market validation to help translate technological achievements into practical applications.

Through collaboration among the three parties, the project brings together the power plant’s operational resources, the clean-energy company’s hydrogen equipment and operational capabilities, and the innovation services provided by the Mengkeju platform. The initiative aims to move hydrogen mobility beyond isolated demonstrations towards a model that can be replicated and scaled up, demonstrating the potential for hydrogen technologies to be deployed in industrial and mining facilities.

During implementation, the Mengkeju platform provided policy coordination, technical support and resource integration, helping the partners define application scenarios, select technical pathways and establish implementation plans. Through its technology management mechanism, the platform also connects end-user companies, hydrogen equipment providers, universities and research institutes to strengthen links between application, industrial and innovation chains.

Going forward, the Mengkeju platform will continue to promote the commercialisation of technological achievements through application-driven innovation, supporting the deployment of new-energy technologies in industrial parks and mining facilities and contributing to the region’s transition towards a greener, lower-carbon energy system.
