OTOG BANNER, Inner Mongolia — Shenneng North Energy Holding announced that all 48 water electrolyzers at its 505 MW Integrated Wind-Solar Hydrogen-to-Green Ammonia Project successfully completed commissioning and produced high-purity green hydrogen on July 30. The achievement marks a substantial transition for the megaproject from renewable power generation to an integrated "green power —— green hydrogen —— green ammonia" chemical coupling model.

Recognized by China's National Energy Administration (NEA) as one of the country's inaugural hydrogen demonstration pilots, the RMB 3.5 billion (~$485 million) megaproject combines a 500 MW onshore wind farm and a 5 MW off-grid solar facility to power its massive 48,000 Nm3/h hydrogen generation unit. This capacity is delivered by 48 units of 1,000 Nm3/h electrolyzers—including equipment supplied by SANY Hydrogen and CRRC Times Electric—and supported by 12 spherical storage tanks (1,875m3 each). On the downstream side, the facility feeds a 150,000-ton-per-year green ammonia synthesis plant while incorporating a 30 MW-class 100% hydrogen-fired gas turbine dedicated to hydrogen-based power storage.

Upon full commercial operation, the project is projected to generate an average of 1.4 billion kWh of green electricity annually, producing 20,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 150,000 metric tons of green ammonia per year. The integrated facility is expected to displace approximately 490,000 metric tons of standard coal consumption annually while achieving a renewable power utilization rate exceeding 80%.
