Envision Energy Supplies Environmental Attribute Certificates from World's Largest Green Ammonia Project to PepsiCo

CHIFENG ——Envision Energy is supplying Environmental Attribute Certificates to PepsiCo. These certificates are directly linked to the green ammonia output from Envision’s Chifeng project in Inner Mongolia, China—currently the world’s largest integrated green hydrogen and ammonia complex.

The first tranche of environmental attributes certificates, representing 1,000 metric tons of green ammonia, has officially been allocated. Under a newly executed procurement agreement extending through 2030, PepsiCo will continue to purchase environmental attributes certificates associated with the complex’s green ammonia yield, though specific volumetric details remain undisclosed.

The green ammonia is produced at a manufacturing complex supported by a 500 MW renewable energy supply package.

In April, Envision Energy joined the Ammonia Energy Association (AEA) certification system pilot program, implementing a book-and-claim mechanism across its 320,000-ton annual capacity green ammonia plant.

Under the book-and-claim architecture, buyers pay for the production of a specific quantity of low-carbon or sustainable goods without taking physical possession of the goods. Instead, the purchaser receives a verified certificate or environmental attribute claim confirming that their procurement directly financed sustainable output.

Envision Energy plans to scale the complex’s annual green ammonia capacity to 1.5 million metric tons by 2028. Concurrently, PepsiCo is claiming the environmental attributes for an additional 30,000 metric tons of ammonia produced by U.S. startup TalusAG—expanding its sourcing of low-carbon feedstocks to supply fertilizers across its global agricultural production network.
