Xinjiang Yiwu Hydrogen Refueling Station Crosses 480-Ton Bunkering Milestone, Integrating into Cross-Regional Freight Networks

YIWU, Xinjiang — The Nayu Hydrogen Refueling Station in Yiwu County, Xinjiang, has surpassed 480 metric tons (480,000 kg) in cumulative hydrogen dispensing, serving over 21,000 heavy-duty hydrogen truck visits. The station has officially been integrated into the regional energy replenishment networks along the G7 Beijing–Xinjiang Expressway and G331 National Highway, marking a functional transition from localized industrial park haulage to cross-regional long-haul freight operations.

The facility maintains a stable daily hydrogen production capacity of 1 metric ton. Utilizing an "industrial byproduct hydrogen plus purification" process route, the project captures raw coke oven gas generated from upstream semi-coke pyrolysis. Following initial pretreatment and shift purification to yield 99.5% industrial-grade hydrogen, a secondary refining step elevates hydrogen purity to 99.97%, fully complying with automotive fuel cell quality standards.

On the operational front, the station achieves a single-vehicle fueling time of approximately 20 minutes. A standard fill of 40 kg of hydrogen yields an operational range between 300 and 400 kilometers, supporting both industrial park logistics fleets and local municipal hydrogen buses.

To address the high-frequency and heavy-payload operating conditions characteristic of mining trucks, core station equipment—including dispensing systems, high-pressure storage vessels, and piping networks—is equipped with an intelligent diagnostic framework. The system provides 24/7 real-time monitoring and predictive alerts for pressure, temperature, and potential hydrogen leaks.

To overcome early infrastructure constraints and operational cost pressures, the operating entity implemented cost-reduction strategies including automated fleet dispatching, off-peak refueling, and collaborative multi-party risk-sharing mechanisms alongside local government authorities and third-party logistics operators.

Looking ahead, the Nayu station plans to undergo technical retrofits to expand throughput capacity. Upgrades will include adding dedicated refueling bays, optimizing hydrogen storage configurations, and implementing digital yard management systems to accommodate the region's expanding hydrogen fleet and growing trunk-line logistics demand.
