On July 19, with the successful grid connection of its final wind turbine, China’s largest high-altitude mountain wind power project by single-unit capacity—the China Datang Julongliang Wind Farm Expansion Project—officially achieved full-capacity power generation. The milestone injects strong momentum into the region's renewable energy expansion and green, low-carbon transformation.

Located in Jinyuan Township, Xundian County, Kunming, the Julongliang expansion project sits at an average altitude of 3,239 meters. The project has a total installed capacity of 158.22 MW, featuring 3 units of 8.34 MW and 12 units of 11.1 MW wind turbines. The project is expected to deliver approximately 462 million kWh of clean electricity annually. This will replace roughly 140,000 tons of standard coal per year, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 380,000 tons, and meet the annual household electricity needs of 180,000 three-person families.
Capitalizing on the region's abundant wind resources, the project deployed customized, large-capacity wind turbines that overcome the limits of traditional mountain wind equipment. Specially adapted to complex high-altitude terrain, low temperatures, and strong winds, these turbines significantly boost wind energy utilization efficiency and power stability. The initiative achieves highly intensive, efficient wind energy development in mountainous plateaus, setting a brand-new benchmark for upgrading high-altitude wind power across the country. The successful completion of full-capacity operations demonstrates China's advanced technology and robust construction capabilities in high-altitude mountain wind farm development.
