The methanol bunkering vessel Haigang Zhiyuan recently completed a ship-to-ship simultaneous bunkering operation for the methanol dual-fuel car carrier Arctic Tern at Haitong Terminal, Waigaoqiao Port in Shanghai, supplying 2,800 tonnes of locally produced green methanol.

The successful operation represents a major breakthrough in the large-scale marine application of Shanghai-produced green methanol. It marks the completion of an integrated supply chain covering green methanol production, storage and bunkering within Shanghai, providing a mature, replicable and scalable “Shanghai Model” for the global shipping industry’s transition toward low-carbon fuels.
The 2,800 tonnes of green methanol used in the bunkering operation were supplied by a 100,000-tonne green methanol production project located in Shanghai. The successful completion of this milestone operation demonstrates that Shanghai Port has established a closed-loop green methanol bunkering system for marine applications, marking a key step in the development of Shanghai as an international green fuel bunkering hub.
