Qingling Fuel Cell Commercial Vehicle Secures Hong Kong Type Approval

HONG KONG — On September 8^th, the Qingling hydrogen fuel-cell commercial vehicle demonstration and policy exchange event was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. During the event, the Qingling M600 hydrogen fuel cell truck officially secured type approval from Transport Department of the Hong Kong SAR, becoming the first right-hand-drive hydrogen truck to earn this certification in Hong Kong and signaling the entry of right-hand-drive hydrogen commercial vehicles into operational deployment across the region.

Jointly developed by Qingling Motors (Group) Co., Ltd. ("Qingling") and Bosch, the newly introduced hydrogen fuel cell truck features a 5-minute refueling capability, a cruising range exceeding 500 kilometers, and a payload capacity over 3,000 kilograms. At the launch event, Eythos—an artwork logistics company certified under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)—signed a letter of intent to procure the hydrogen vehicles, integrating the fleet to drive logistics decarbonization. To adapt to Hong Kong's local transportation network and operational environment, Qingling will customize tailored vehicle models and build a localized maintenance and service architecture.

The Hong Kong SAR Government is currently developing its hydrogen energy framework under the strategy of "improving regulations, formulating standards, aligning with the market, and advancing with prudence." Technical guidelines governing hydrogen vehicles and refueling stations have been established, with relevant subsidiary legislation scheduled for submission to the Legislative Council in 2026. To date, Hong Kong has approved 42 hydrogen trial projects while simultaneously planning public hydrogen refueling infrastructure across Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, collaborating with Guangdong Province to advance the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Hydrogen Corridor. Meanwhile, local dealer BIBI CAR will collect operational data tailored to Hong Kong's dense urban traffic and high-density fleet environment to support broader commercialization.

Securing type approval for the right-hand-drive hydrogen fuel cell truck alongside the executed procurement intent paves the way for commercial demonstration of hydrogen commercial vehicles in Hong Kong, generating practical operational data for logistics decarbonization and the regional buildout of the GBA hydrogen transport network.
